From March 17 to 21, the very first Violence and Bullying Prevention in Schools Week is being held this year under the theme « Reinforcing respect and civility in our schools. »
For the SEPB-Québec Comité National du Soutien Scolaire (CNSS-SEPB), our schools need much more than prevention to curb this issue. « Violence and bullying make many victims among students, but also among our school support staff. Our members are on the front lines, and it is not uncommon for them to be physically assaulted and injured. The Ministry of Education’s initiative is a step in the right direction, but we want concrete measures to help students and employees, » explains Manon Cholette, CNSS president.
The situation of violence in schools has persisted for years. The CNSS has produced a shocking video advertisement to raise awareness among the public and the government about the unbearable situation prevailing in many schools.
« Our members will participate 100% in the Violence and Bullying Prevention in Schools Week because it is important to do so. Awareness is an important tool, but we also ask for structural measures to help support staff » concludes Ms. Cholette.
